“My passion for innovation started at an early age,” he recalls, his eyes lighting up with the memories of his childhood. “Growing up in Somalia, I developed a deep appreciation for technology, seeing it as a means to bridge gaps and solve real-world problems.”
Ridwan’s educational journey took flight when he pursued a degree in Computer Science majoring in Software Engineering at Abaarso Tech University in Hargeisa, Somaliland. “During my university years, I was fascinated by how technology could solve real-world problems, particularly in education and business. This inspired me to take an entrepreneurial path, creating tech-driven solutions that empower young people and businesses,” he shares, reflecting on the moments that ignited his entrepreneurial spirit.
Upon moving to Addis Ababa, he faced a new world of challenges—one that required adaptability and resilience. “Despite these obstacles, I remained committed to my vision of leveraging technology to create impact, which led to the establishment of my ventures in Somalia/Somaliland and contributing to that market.”
Where Need Meets Innovation
The spark for his entrepreneurial ventures rooted itself deeply in a glaring gap he identified in the market. “We founded Fikrcamp, an EdTech company, to address a critical issue I observed: the lack of accessible, high-quality technical education in Somalia and Ethiopia,” he explains. Ridwan recognized a crucial issue: many young individuals possessed the talent and ambition to excel in the tech industry, yet lacked structured and affordable training programs.
“Fikrcamp was designed to bridge this gap by offering intensive coding and design boot camps, equipping students with in-demand skills and connecting them to job opportunities.”
“The BootCamp takes beginners and transforms them in 16 weeks to the full web or mobile developers and the graduates work on outsourced projects from the global markets,” added Ridwan.
Beyond this, Ridwan also manages Danakil Studio, a web development company dedicated to enhancing the online presence of small businesses in the region. “In today’s digital era, many small businesses and organizations in the region struggle with branding and digital visibility. Danakil Studio provides them with professional websites and digital solutions to enhance their operations in East Africa working for big brands and corporations.”
Ridwan’s entrepreneurial ventures have achieved remarkable reach and scope. As he notes, “Currently, Fikrcamp operates virtually, with students joining from different parts of Africa.” This online presence has enabled Fikrcamp to transcend geographical boundaries and empower students across the continent.

Many investors and grant providers hesitate to fund early-stage African startups, especially those in EdTech,” he admits. “To overcome this, I learned how to effectively pitch to investors, apply for grants, and build sustainable business models that generate revenue and I have successfully raised more than $40,000 angel investment equity for Fikrcamp.” Balancing multiple roles as a founder posed another challenge, but Ridwan tackled it with strategic time management and delegation. “These experiences taught me resilience and adaptability—qualities essential for any entrepreneur.”

Ridwan’s journey is marked by the meaningful impact of his ventures. “One of my proudest achievements is the success of our students at Fikrcamp,” he shares. With over 350 students trained through their programs, the results have been promising, boasting a 65% retention rate and 47% employment rate among graduates. “Many of our graduates have gone on to secure high-paying jobs, start their own businesses, or contribute to the tech ecosystem.”
Similarly, through Danakil Studio, Ridwan has helped numerous businesses establish robust digital identities. “One standout project was developing an online platform for a major non-profit, enabling them to streamline their operations and engage a broader audience.”

“As for upcoming projects, Fikrcamp is planning to expand its boot camps,” he reveals, aiming to further enhance the company’s impact on tech education. Moreover, Ridwan is excited to launch “new community-driven tech events” that will bring young tech enthusiasts together, fostering valuable connections and collaborations. He sees potential in exploring AI-powered website builders. “These innovations will enhance our services and create better experiences for our clients.”
