Sheldon Tatchell, Founder and CEO of Legends Barber Corporation and Chairperson-Elect of the Franchise Association of South Africa (FASA), has announced a strategic equity acquisition in Happyville, a rising youth clothing brand redefining streetwear culture in South Africa.

Tatchell, a two-time recipient of the Entrepreneur of the Year Award (2024 and 2025), shared the news via LinkedIn, describing the partnership as a blend of mentorship, investment and legacy building.

“What inspires me most is the story of its founder, Lebo. From learning to sew as a young boy alongside his mother, he’s built an incredible brand that resonates with the next generation. When he reached out and said, ‘I need a big brother to help me scale and take this to the next level,’ I knew this was more than just business it’s about impact, mentorship and building legacies,” Tatchell wrote.

South Africa’s creative industry is experiencing unparalleled success right now. From international artists like Tyla to fashion innovators such as Thebe Magugu, local creatives are taking over the world stage. At home, the growth of local fashion brands has also been on the uptick. Leading this charge is streetwear label Happyville.

Happyville was founded by Lebohang Serame, who fell in love with fashion during his high school years. Inspired by South African streetwear staples like Ama Kip Kip and Galxboy, Serame, with the help of his close friend Xola Mda, launched Happyville as a brand built on youthful energy, cultural pride and a vision to connect deeply with the next generation.

The partnership with Tatchell reflects a broader strategy to nurture this creative momentum. By investing in Happyville, Legends Barber Corporation is extending its influence beyond grooming into fashion and lifestyle, signaling a new era of cross-industry collaboration within African entrepreneurship.

Tatchell emphasized that the move is not solely commercial. It is also about fostering intergenerational mentorship and giving young innovators access to resources, networks and knowledge that can accelerate their growth.

The deal has also drawn attention within the franchising and small business sectors. With Tatchell as the chairperson of FASA, the partnership underscores his commitment to empowering South Africa’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and ensuring that local brands have the infrastructure to scale nationally and internationally.

“This partnership is a step towards empowering local talent, growing homegrown brands, and shaping the future of African entrepreneurship. The best is yet to come,” Tatchell concluded.

As the collaboration between Legends Barber Corporation and Happyville unfolds, industry observers expect stronger synergies between grooming, lifestyle and fashion markets, positioning both brands as pioneers in shaping youth culture and Africa’s creative economy.
