Oluwafemi Bewaji and Olufemi Idowu, Nigerian entrepreneurs and alumni of Cascador Nigeria, recently participated in the prestigious China Merchants C Star Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program.

Oluwafemi is the managing director of Fembol Group while Olufemi is founder and chief executive officer of 24seven.

Their involvement in this transformative initiative not only showcased Nigeria’s burgeoning tech ecosystem but also provided them with invaluable opportunities to enhance their business skills through international exposure and cross-cultural collaboration.

A Landmark Program Bridging China and Africa

The China Merchants C Star Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program, concluded successfully on September 23 at Peking University, brought together young leaders from China and Africa.

Under the theme “Business for Good, Win-Win for All,” the program aimed to foster entrepreneurial collaboration and cultural exchange, emphasizing the importance of building a shared future between China and Africa.

Representatives from prominent institutions such as the China Merchants Group, Peking University, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and various African embassies celebrated the event, highlighting its significance within the broader framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Action Plan.

For Nigerian entrepreneurs like Bewaji and Idowu, participating in this program meant engaging directly with China’s thriving innovation ecosystem.

Over ten days, they toured major cities including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan and Beijing, gaining firsthand insight into China’s technological advancements, business models and innovative practices.

This immersive experience provided them with practical knowledge that can be applied to their ventures in Nigeria and beyond, fostering a mindset geared toward sustainable growth and innovative problem-solving.

Building Skills Through Cross-Cultural Engagement

Participation in the program is expected to significantly enhance the entrepreneurs’ business acumen.

By interacting with Chinese counterparts, Bewaji and Idowu have the opportunity to learn about best practices in technology deployment, agricultural innovations and cultural integration.

Such exposure broadens their understanding of how global markets operate and encourages them to adapt these strategies within the Nigerian context.

Moreover, the signing of a letter of intent for the C Star Special Fund during the program signifies a commitment to supporting young entrepreneurs financially and through resources.

Access to such funding can help Bewaji and Idowu scale their startups, implement new technologies, and expand their reach.

The program’s emphasis on “seeds of innovation” planting across Africa aligns with their aspirations to address local challenges through innovative solutions, whether in tech, agriculture or culture.

Implications for Nigeria’s Tech Ecosystem

The participation of Nigerian entrepreneurs like Bewaji and Idowu in this program underscores Nigeria’s potential as a hub for technological innovation in West Africa.

It demonstrates the country’s readiness to engage in global partnerships that foster knowledge transfer, investment and sustainable development.

As these entrepreneurs harness their newfound skills and networks, they are poised to become catalysts for change within Nigeria’s tech ecosystem, inspiring other young innovators to pursue international collaborations.

Their experience in China will enable them to introduce new ideas, technologies and business models to Nigeria, potentially creating jobs and contributing to economic diversification.

Furthermore, their participation exemplifies how cross-cultural exchanges can serve as catalysts for regional growth and development, fostering stronger ties between Africa and China.

A Step Toward a Shared Future

Overall, Oluwafemi Bewaji and Olufemi Idowu’s involvement in the China Merchants C Star Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program marks a significant step in their entrepreneurial journeys.

It equips them with critical skills, global networks and resources necessary for scaling their ventures. Their participation not only enhances their personal growth but also highlights the importance of international cooperation in fostering innovation and sustainable development across Africa.

As Nigeria continues to nurture its entrepreneurs and embrace global partnerships, stories like theirs serve as a testament to the country’s bright future in the global tech landscape.

Through such initiatives, Nigerian youth are not only planting seeds of innovation at home but also contributing to a larger, shared vision of progress and prosperity between Africa and China.
