In a significant effort to address the increasing unemployment and poverty rates among young people, the Government of Lesotho has introduced the Bacha Entrepreneurship Project. This initiative invites young Basotho to submit their business ideas and proposals from all over the country.
The initiative is a joint effort between the Basotho Enterprise Development Corporation (BEDCO), the Revenue Services Lesotho (RSL), and Standard Lesotho Bank. Together, they’ve committed M1.4 million to help turn promising ideas from youth aged 21 to 35 into real businesses.
At the launch event, BEDCO’s PR manager, Ms Mamahapela Mukuoane, said the project shows the power of working together across government and business.
“It’s a sign of our shared commitment to youth and entrepreneurship,” she said.
RSL’s Mr Tšeliso Mphane added that the program will also help young businesses enter the formal economy and learn the importance of paying tax.
Standard Lesotho Bank, represented by Acting Head of Marketing Mr Manyathela Kheleli, promised tailored financial support and mentorship.
“We want to give our youth the confidence and tools to build thriving businesses,” he said.
Young Basotho have until July 24, 2025 to submit their proposals. The project specifically seeks ideas in agriculture, technology, green businesses and the creative sector. Winners will receive funding, mentorship and support for business development.
BEDCO is urging eligible youth to seize this chance to turn ideas into livelihoods not just for themselves, but for their communities and the country at large.
