It was a typical day at the office for Nyasha Joseph Gara, but little did he know that his life was about to take a dramatic turn. As he sat at his desk, he began to ponder his true calling. He had always been driven to serve others, a value instilled in him by his mother, Margaret Gara. This inherent desire to be of service to people of influence sparked an idea that would eventually become Acestroke Golf Equipment Care.
Taking the Leap: The Birth of Acestroke
“I had tried to establish myself as a personal assistant to C-suite executives, but I wasn’t patient enough to follow up on the idea and see it through to success,” Nyasha reflects. As he delved deeper into the market, he discovered a glaring gap. “The gap in the market I found out is that everyone is busy trying to achieve, trying to be something memorable, selfish to personal goals and commitments,” he observes.
“But less people actually are interested in serving others in any capacity.” This realization sparked a sense of purpose, driving Nyasha to define Acestroke’s vision. “Thus our vision at Acestroke is, ‘To provide solutions to our client’s professional needs unrelated to golf equipment maintenance,'” he explains, highlighting the company’s commitment to serving others and catering to their unique needs.
Nyasha’s journey with Acestroke began with branding and launching the company. “The foundation of the brand is to be of service toward the next person’s needs and in this case it is corporate magnates,” commented Nyasha. Just a few months after its inception, Acestroke has already made a significant impact. One of its most notable milestones was sponsoring The Wednesday Club at The Country Club Newlands in January 2025. Acestroke awarded its cleaning packages to members who attained first and second positions.
Nyasha’s inspiration for starting Acestroke stems from his strong Christian roots and his mother’s teachings. “Growing up, my mother taught me to be a liberal giver,” he says. “I’ve carried that value with me throughout my life, and it’s what drives me to serve others.”
Acestroke provides luxury and premium services, including cleaning for golf bags, golf clubs, and accessories. The company is also involved in repairing and maintaining golf carts and golf clubs. What sets Acestroke apart is its commitment to providing personal assistance to each of its clients. “We’re not just a golf equipment care company; we’re a service provider that caters to the needs of corporate magnates,” Nyasha explains.
As a startup, Acestroke is constantly evolving. Nyasha acknowledges that the business landscape is headed towards sustainability and technological evolution. To stay ahead, Acestroke is committed to conducting constant research on industry trends and best practices.
Overcoming Obstacles and Achieving Success
When asked about the challenges he’s faced, Nyasha candidly admits that his biggest obstacle is himself. “My doubts, fears, and ignorance have been my greatest challenges,” he says with a laugh. “But I’m working on them all by pushing forward despite setbacks.”
One of Nyasha’s greatest strengths is his ability to overcome obstacles. “I’ve overcome the fear of trying and the urge to quit too early,” he says. “I’ve learned that I’ll never grow if I don’t constantly expose myself to uncomfortable situations that test my confidence and pre-existing knowledge.”
Nyasha’s passion for employee wellbeing is evident in his approach to business. As an executive coach, he works with individuals in jobs they didn’t go to school for. His advocacy for employee satisfaction stems from his belief that when companies take care of their people, people take care of the shareholders. “I am passionate about employee wellbeing at the workplace. I am a born leader so someday I would love to advocate for employee satisfaction because if companies take care of their people, people take care of the shareholders.”
Acestroke’s success story is one of hope and resilience. Before starting the company, Nyasha paid for school children’s tuition under the auspices of his Sephara Foundation. Today, he hopes that Acestroke will gather well-wishers willing to donate to fight drug and substance abuse, particularly in Zimbabwe. “Fast forward present day we hope that Acestroke through its operation gathers well wisher willing to donate to fight drug and substance abuse particularly in Zimbabwe,” Nyasha noted.
As Nyasha looks to the future, he’s excited about the prospect of bringing in Air Eaze, the market leader in compressed air-operated cleaning stations. “We are excited about bringing in Air Eaze which is the market leader in compressed air operated cleaning stations,” said Nyasha. He’s also working towards a merger with a prestigious golf club in Harare.
Nyasha’s advice to entrepreneurs is to never be afraid to get uncomfortable. “Knock on those doors you’re scared of, always learn from others, write it all down, try, fail, get depressed, try again, and keep going,” he says.
As for his own future, Nyasha remains committed to his vision of providing luxury and premium services to corporate magnates. His story is a testament to the power of resilience, determination, and a willingness to serve others.
“I believe that there’s nothing called limited resources,” Nyasha says. “It’s all about limited knowledge of opportunities around oneself. My advice is to always be willing to learn, ask questions, and seek feedback. And most importantly, never try to appear like you know everything.”
