Imagine a young man, standing at the crossroads of ambition, with nothing but a certificate and a dream in his pocket. His heart set on becoming an accountant, Enock William Kamanga had no idea that his journey would lead him far beyond the numbers and spreadsheets he once envisioned. What started as a quiet desire to excel in the world of accounting would soon unravel into a passion for education that would shape his entire life and the lives of countless others.
“I was born and raised in Blantyre, where I did most of my primary and secondary school,” Enock begins. “As a youth, I was always inspired to become an accountant. That is where my journey began.” This early aspiration led Enock to the Malawi College of Accountancy, where he earned a certificate and diploma in Accountancy. Determined to go further, he pursued a bachelor’s degree in Accountancy at the University of Malawi, and also became an ACCA Finalist.
But Enock’s thirst for knowledge didn’t stop there. “I am currently pursuing two master’s programs,” he shares. “An Executive MBA (Remote) from the Malawi College of Accountancy and The Masters of Commerce in Accounting and Financial Management from St. Eugine DMI of Zambia (Online classes).” These studies were not just a pursuit of academic excellence—they were Enock’s way of honing his leadership skills as a young entrepreneur. “I am taking these two master’s programs just to enhance my leadership skills,” he says with passion.
Yet, it was not just academic growth that shaped his path to entrepreneurship. In 2014, after completing his certificate and diploma, Enock joined FINCA Malawi, where he worked for 11 years. It was here that he realized the limitations of relying solely on a traditional job. “Work alone was not enough to sustain me as a youth. There was a lot missing in my life,” Enock reflects. His passion for education became the driving force behind his next venture. “I was very passionate about Education,” he adds.
From Helping His Wife to Helping the World
Enock’s passion for education was ignited when his wife was in college. He recounts, “My journey to open an education consultancy started when my wife was in college. Before we got married, she enrolled into a 4-year bachelor’s degree at Malawi College of Accountancy.” Enock played a significant role in supporting his wife’s education, even becoming her part-time lecturer. As he shares, “By then, I only had a certificate and diploma in Accountancy, but I had no choice but to help her throughout her degree.”
This hands-on experience sparked a passion that would eventually shape his career. “Other students from her school started giving me their assignments and dissertations to assist them and offer them guidance. Some students started approaching me for private lessons. This was the beginning of my consultancy,” Enock explains. What began as an informal arrangement soon became something much more substantial. “I figured I need to register the consultancy,” he says.
Thus, RAYSBOOK ACCOUNTING, RESEARCH AND EDUCATION CONSULTANCY was born. Based in Mzuzu, Malawi, the consultancy offers research and educational services to students locally and internationally. “I am currently assisting 2 students from abroad, one from Ireland and another from Gambia,” Enock proudly shares. “I have just completed a PhD thesis from a student from Somalia. Locally, I am currently working on 6 projects from different students in different universities.” Enock’s consultancy has become a beacon of academic support for students seeking personalized guidance in their studies.
As he notes, his consultancy has grown, but it remains a tight-knit team: “Currently, it is just me and my wife plus an office assistant helping in our company.”
Overcoming Challenges and Juggling Roles
The evolution of the education consultancy landscape has not gone unnoticed by Enock. As the demand for personalized academic support has grown, particularly with the rise of online learning, Enock has adapted by embracing technology. “I use digital platforms for research consultations and online tutoring,” he says, explaining how this has allowed him to extend his reach globally. “This allows me to work with students globally.”
Despite his growing success, Enock’s journey has not been without its challenges. “One of the major challenges I faced was establishing credibility in the education consultancy field,” he admits. Building a reputation in such a trust-based industry took time and patience. “I overcame this by consistently delivering high-quality work, maintaining integrity, and obtaining referrals from satisfied clients,” he says. Time management, especially balancing his job, studies, and business, was another significant hurdle. “Time management and discipline have been key to overcoming this,” Enock shares.
But it wasn’t all setbacks. Enock’s work with international students has been a major success story. “One of my most notable success stories is assisting a PhD student from Somalia with his dissertation,” he says. “Despite the complexities of his doctoral research, I was able to guide him to successful completion.” Working with students from Ireland and Gambia has proven that his consultancy can reach far beyond Malawi’s borders. “This has been a significant milestone, proving that my consultancy can operate beyond Malawi,” he says.
Locally, Enock has made his mark in academia as well. “Another success has been securing a lecturer position at the University of Livingstonia,” he says. “This validates my academic expertise and further expands my impact in higher education.” Enock’s expertise has also been recognized by QuickBooks, where he was appointed as a Non-Executive Consultant by David Hastings Associates (DHA), offering advisory services to clients.
Inspiring Change: A Vision for Africa’s Youth
Enock’s impact isn’t just limited to the academic sphere. He has also expanded his work to mentoring young professionals, focusing on career development and financial literacy. “I’m passionate about helping small business owners understand accounting principles, financial management, and tax compliance,” he shares. “I see so many young entrepreneurs struggling with basic financial concepts, and I want to change that.”
The emphasis on financial education has led Enock to explore new initiatives aimed at improving financial literacy among Africa’s youth. “In the future, I plan to develop a structured financial literacy program that helps young entrepreneurs to grasp basic accounting and financial management principles,” he reveals. “Financial literacy is key to the success of any business, and it’s essential for the next generation of African entrepreneurs to understand this early on.”
A Legacy Built on Passion, Resilience, and Leadership
Reflecting on his journey, Enock points to one of the most significant lessons he’s learned: “Passion and consistency lead to success. My business started from helping my wife with her studies, and through persistence, it grew into a recognized consultancy.” His approach to leadership and entrepreneurship has been shaped by resilience, adaptability, and the desire to keep learning.
“Being an entrepreneur is not just about making money—it’s about making a meaningful impact,” Enock says. “The real satisfaction comes from knowing you’ve made a difference in someone’s life. When I see my students succeed and go on to build their own careers, I know I’ve done something worthwhile.”
Looking ahead, Enock has big plans for the future. “I’m excited about the growth of online education and the use of AI in academic research,” he says, his voice filled with anticipation. “AI tools are transforming the way students approach research and writing. It’s an exciting time, and I’m eager to see how these technologies can help my clients further.”
There’s a certain quiet confidence that surrounds Enock William Kamanga—a belief that education, when done right, can change lives. Through his consultancy, his work as a lecturer, and his mentorship of young professionals, Enock is not just making a name for himself; he’s changing the landscape of education in Malawi and beyond.
His journey is a reminder that success doesn’t always follow a straight path. Sometimes, it’s the detours—the moments of helping others, of offering guidance and mentorship—that lead to the greatest discoveries. Enock’s story is about more than just the lessons learned; it’s about the lives he’s touched and the legacy he’s building. And as his consultancy grows and his impact spreads, one thing is clear: the future of education, particularly in Africa, is in good hands.
