Egypt is strengthening its non-bank financial sector through innovation and entrepreneurship. The Demo Day of the World Computer Hacker League, taking place on August 31 under the FRA Sandbox, marks the country’s debut in this international competition. Participants will present projects ranging from AI applications to blockchain solutions, demonstrating how startups can contribute to financial technology advancement. Supported by Mercatura Forum, ICP Hub Egypt and the DFINITY Foundation, the initiative highlights Egypt’s commitment to fostering a culture of innovation, supporting youth-led ventures and connecting local entrepreneurs with global opportunities that can drive economic growth and position the country as a leader in fintech.

“Believing in the importance of entrepreneurship and startups, I am proud to announce that in less than 45 days since the official launch of the FRA Sandbox, we are hosting the Demo Day of the World Computer Hacker League on August 31st, with Egypt participating for the first time alongside around 20 countries worldwide,” said Mohamed Farid Saleh, Executive Chairman, Financial Regulatory Authority. His remarks underscore both the speed with which Egypt is advancing its startup ecosystem and the significance of providing youth with platforms to innovate and compete internationally.

The Demo Day provides a stage for Egypt’s youth to demonstrate creativity in artificial intelligence, advanced financial technologies and Web3. By integrating the FRA Sandbox, which allows startups to experiment under regulatory guidance, the event illustrates how governance and innovation can work together to create a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem. It also reinforces Egypt’s growing presence on the global innovation map.

Demo Day will allow the most promising innovators to present their solutions, competing for a chance to represent Egypt in the African qualifiers next month. The winners will not only receive prizes but also gain recognition and credibility that can open doors for further funding, partnerships and mentorship. For many young entrepreneurs, this represents a critical step toward scaling their ideas and making a tangible impact on Egypt’s non-bank financial sector.

“The Demo Day represents a true platform to showcase the creativity of our youth in AI and advanced financial technologies, and a milestone for Egypt’s presence on the global innovation map,” Mohamed added. The event reflects a broader strategy to position Egypt as a hub for fintech innovation, demonstrating that the country values entrepreneurship and is ready to nurture talent capable of competing on a global scale.

The event is organized by the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) under its Sandbox initiative in collaboration with Mercatura Forum and ICP Hub Egypt, with support from the DFINITY Foundation. It is designed to foster learning, collaboration and exposure to global standards in technology and financial innovation. Participants will receive feedback from experts, refine their ideas and engage with a network of professionals who can help accelerate their growth.

Participants and observers can expect a showcase of groundbreaking ideas and inspiring talent, ranging from AI-driven solutions to blockchain-enabled financial tools. By highlighting the ingenuity of young innovators, Demo Day emphasizes the role of entrepreneurship in solving societal and economic challenges while also generating business opportunities. The event encourages collaboration, knowledge exchange and the adoption of best practices that can scale locally and internationally.

The FRA Sandbox, Mercatura Forum and ICP Hub Egypt have collectively worked to make this event a milestone in Egypt’s innovation landscape. Their combined efforts demonstrate how regulatory frameworks, strategic partnerships and support structures can empower youth-led startups. With the backing of the DFINITY Foundation, participants are not only gaining recognition but also becoming part of an international ecosystem that promotes knowledge-sharing and collaboration across borders.

For Egypt, Demo Day is more than just a competition, it is a strategic initiative that highlights the potential of young innovators to drive growth and transformation in the fintech sector. By providing a platform that merges entrepreneurship, technology and regulatory support, Egypt is creating sustainable opportunities that can shape the future of finance and innovation. Success in the national rounds opens the door for participation in African and global finals, reinforcing Egypt’s position as a hub of creativity and technological expertise.

“Best wishes to all participating teams and may this mark the beginning of a new chapter of innovation and entrepreneurship in Egypt’s non-bank financial sector, with continued success in the African qualifiers next month, paving the way to the global finals,” Mohamed said. His message reflects the optimism and ambition surrounding the initiative, emphasizing that this event is a milestone for both the participants and the country’s broader innovation ecosystem.

Through initiatives like the FRA Sandbox and the World Computer Hacker League Demo Day, Egypt is fostering a culture where young innovators are empowered to tackle real-world problems, attract investment and elevate the nation’s standing on the global innovation stage. Together, these efforts are setting the stage for a new era of entrepreneurship, technology-driven growth and international recognition for Egyptian talent.
