A strong academic background, a supportive family structure, and an unyielding desire to overcome life’s challenges are the ingredients that have shaped Allen Mutape into the visionary leader and innovative entrepreneur he is today.
As the founder and director of Capireq Construction and Medinsight Health Group, Allen is successfully balancing his responsibilities at both companies with distinction, simultaneously leading two teams and ensuring they each fulfill their core mandate of providing vital services in the construction and health sectors, respectively.
Capireq Construction, founded in 2020, specializes in contemporary construction and renovation solutions, delivering cutting-edge interior design and exceptional craftsmanship. Their core services include innovative kitchen designs, glass and aluminium installations, tiling, painting, residential construction, and property development.
After recognizing the potential to transform spaces and elevate standards, Allen established Capireq Construction as a platform to bring a fresh approach to both home and commercial projects. The primary driving force was to create spaces that not only met functional needs but also reflected contemporary design and high-quality craftsmanship.
Medinsight Health Group, on the other hand, was born from a vision to expand beyond traditional healthcare offerings and explore broader health services such as pharmacies, diagnostics, and research consultancy.
“The decision to embark on the businesses I currently lead was driven by a profound passion for innovation, a desire to make a positive impact in the construction and healthcare sectors, and a vision to contribute to the growth and development of Zimbabwe’s business landscape.
“In the construction industry, the initial spark came from recognizing the need for quality, modern construction and renovation solutions in Zimbabwe. Witnessing the potential to transform spaces and elevate standards, I founded The Steward Construction, which later transitioned to Capireq Construction, to bring a fresh approach to home and commercial projects.
“The driving force was to create spaces that not only met functional needs but also reflected contemporary design and craftsmanship. The goal of Medinsight Health Group is to enhance healthcare delivery, promote wellness, and drive innovation in the sector. The core purpose behind both ventures was to create sustainable businesses that not only thrive financially but also contribute meaningfully to the community and the economy.”
Allen attributes much of his entrepreneurial drive to his upbringing in a family with a strong entrepreneurial mindset, which instilled a business-oriented approach to many of his childhood activities.
“I was raised by both parents, who shared a deep passion for entrepreneurship despite their humble beginnings. My father worked as a messenger at a local school in Bulawayo, while my mother ran a small vending business selling snacks, fruits, and vegetables.
“She exhibited remarkable versatility in her trade, funding our education through the proceeds from her vending endeavors. Even from a young age, I assisted by selling at the market after school and on weekends, learning the ropes of entrepreneurship firsthand.
“Our family also engaged in farming, cultivating and selling produce from urban farms to sustain ourselves. It was during these formative years that I began absorbing essential business principles. By grade three, I ventured into selling my own snacks. My appetite for entrepreneurship was further fueled when, by grade seven, I had read and absorbed the lessons from the book Rich Dad Poor Dad.”
After completing his A-Levels at Mpophoma High School, Allen embarked on an academic journey at the University of Zimbabwe, where he pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science and Technology. He then proceeded to the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) to study for a Master of Business Administration (MBA) qualification.
His journey continued at Midlands State University, where he successfully pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems and Computer Science. Despite managing two businesses, Allen’s passion for learning persists, and he is currently working towards a Doctor of Business Leadership degree at Midlands State University.
“I have also enriched my professional profile by completing a diploma program at the Sharpe Business Academy (SBA) using Harvard Business School materials. Driven by a deep-seated passion for learning and science, I am committed to integrating these principles into the realm of business to drive innovation and success.”
Throughout the challenges and successes Allen has encountered during his entrepreneurial journey, his wife, Dr. Murudo Kamhara-Mutape, has stood by him not only as a pillar of strength and support but also as an advisor and fellow strategist.
“I collaborate with my wife in managing both businesses. Leveraging my expertise in software operations, I introduce IT innovations to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in our operations. We have already implemented IT solutions in both construction and healthcare, with plans to scale and potentially spin them off as independent AI and IT solutions.
“I am currently spearheading the development of these solutions with a dedicated colleague, aiming to revolutionize the health and construction industries with cutting-edge technology. I am eternally grateful to my wife for her support and wisdom.”
While Allen acknowledges that the road ahead may be challenging, his determination to complete the journey he started is an overwhelming force that drives him toward achieving additional milestones.
“My goal is to establish a premier property development firm in Zimbabwe, recognized for excellence in innovation and quality. I aim to leverage AI technologies to revolutionize the construction industry, contributing to Zimbabwe’s transformation into one of the most advanced countries in terms of infrastructure.
“Through strategic investments in construction and healthcare enterprises, I aspire to cultivate a highly skilled workforce and build sustainable communities, with measurable progress in enhancing infrastructure and public health services across the nation.”
