Botswana’s manufacturing sector will take centre stage at the 3rd Annual Local Manufacturing Summit, set for 1–2 September 2025 at the Gaborone International Conference Centre (GICC).
Under the theme “Shaping the Future of Botswana’s Manufacturing Sector,” the event will explore transformative opportunities in industrial manufacturing and agri-processing, two sectors critical to the nation’s diversification agenda.
Organisers say the summit is designed as more than just a networking forum. It is a high-impact platform to catalyse sustainable growth, strengthen local value chains, and advance economic resilience in the face of global supply chain pressures.
Entrepreneurship at the Core
Entrepreneurship is expected to be a focal point, with discussions targeting how Botswana’s small and medium-sized manufacturers can scale operations, adopt advanced technologies and tap into regional markets.
For many local producers, the event represents a rare chance to connect with policymakers, investors and industry leaders to secure the partnerships and market access needed to grow beyond domestic borders.
The agri-processing track is particularly significant for rural entrepreneurs and cooperatives, whose value-added products from beef and horticulture to traditional foods offer untapped potential for export earnings.
Similarly, the industrial manufacturing sessions will address how Botswana can expand local production capacity in areas like building materials, textiles, and consumer goods to reduce import dependency.
Catalyst for Policy and Partnerships
Beyond showcasing entrepreneurial success stories, the summit is expected to drive policy dialogue on key issues such as incentives for local production, access to finance and integration into regional supply chains.
The event’s emphasis on strategic partnerships could also unlock private sector investment and technology transfer critical ingredients for a globally competitive manufacturing base.
As Botswana positions itself within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), initiatives like this summit are seen as vital for empowering entrepreneurs to move from small-scale operations to scalable, export-ready enterprises.
