In a heartwarming display of kindness and generosity, Maud Chifamba, a dedicated philanthropist and former student of Chiurai Primary School, has successfully raised funds to build a roof for the school’s new two-classroom block.

Chifamba’s GoFundMe campaign, combined with cash donations received in Zimbabwe, reached its goal within a week of its launch.

Her GoFundMe campaign, which aimed to raise $3,000 for a new roof, successfully collected $2,650 from 83 generous donations. This remarkable achievement represents 88% of her initial funding goal.

The funds will be used to construct the roof for the school’s new two-classroom block, with the aim of completing the project before Christmas.

Chifamba took to LinkedIn to share the exciting news, saying, “In a week, we raised enough for a roof at Chiurai Primary School… The goal now is to roof this two-block classroom before Christmas.”

She also expressed her deepest gratitude to the donors, stating, “My heartfelt gratitude to everyone who came in such amazing ways for a school and community you have never been to.”

Chiurai Primary School, located in Gokwe, Zimbabwe, has served around 370 students annually since the 1970s.

However, the school’s buildings have become dilapidated, posing a risk to the learners. One of the blocks was destroyed, and the community came together to build a new two-classroom block from scratch.

Chifamba, who was once a student at the school, was determined to help her alma mater.

The new block required a roof, which came with a total cost of US$6,000.

The community had already contributed US$3,000, and Chifamba set out to raise the remaining US$3,000 through her GoFundMe campaign.

She broke down the goal into manageable contributions, encouraging donors to give what they could, whether it was US$100, US$50, or US$25.

“HOW YOU CAN HELP – US$3,000 is 30 people donating US$100 each, 60 donating US$50 each, or 120 donating US$25. No amount is too small,” posted Chifamba last week.

Her selfless efforts have not only brought hope to the students and staff of Chiurai Primary School but also inspired a sense of community and generosity among donors.

While the roof is a significant milestone, Chifamba acknowledges that there is still much work to be done.

The school requires additional funding to complete the finishings and furnishings, but Chifamba remains optimistic, taking each day as it comes.

Maud Chifamba’s remarkable achievement serves as a reminder of the power of individual action and community spirit.

Her dedication to improving the lives of others is an inspiration to us all, and her story is a shining example of the impact one person can have when driven by compassion and determination.

But who is Maud Chifamba, the driving force behind this initiative?

Born into poverty in Chegutu, Zimbabwe, in 1997, Maud lost her parents at an early age, leaving her and her siblings to fend for themselves.

Despite these circumstances, Maud refused to let her situation define her. She believed education would give her a decisive advantage, one many feared she had lost along with her parents.

Maud’s determination to succeed led her to homeschool herself, borrowing books and studying long hours during the day and late into the night.

Her hard work paid off when she aced her Advanced-Level examination, earning a US$10,000 scholarship to study at the University of Zimbabwe.

Maud’s achievements didn’t go unnoticed.

In 2012, at just 14 years old, she became the youngest person to be admitted to a university in Zimbabwe and Southern Africa.

She continued to break records, graduating with a Bachelor of Accounting Honours Degree at 18 and earning a Master of Science in Accountancy from the University of Zimbabwe by 2018.

In this capacity, she led the finance committee and sat on the risk committee, overseeing the disbursement of over US$10 million to projects that improved access to ICT services in Zimbabwe.

In addition to her work in audit and finance, Chifamba has also made a name for herself in academia.

She has lectured at the University of Zimbabwe, teaching accounting for managers to a class of over 550 students. She has also worked as a Guest Lecturer in Tax at the Chartered Accountants Academy.

Chifamba’s impressive work experience is complemented by her recent achievements.

She has joined Goldman Sachs as an Investment Banking Summer Associate and has been awarded the US$75,000 Goldman Sachs MBA Fellowship.

“I’m incredibly excited to share that this summer, I’ll be joining the Goldman Sachs TMT Investment Banking team in New York,” posted Chifamba.

“I’ve also been blessed with the US$75,000 Goldman Sachs MBA Fellowship.

“I am consistently amazed by the path my life has taken. From starting school in a place with no desks and only three teachers for seven classes, to Deloitte, Wharton, and now to Wall Street—it’s truly been God’s grace.”
