A New Table for Entrepreneurs: Turbine Launches Networking Breakfast in Moka

As the Mauritian startup ecosystem matures, so too does the need for spaces that nurture more than just business plans, spaces that support entrepreneurs as individuals. The Entrepreneurs’ Breakfast, launched today by Turbine in partnership with Yo L’Artisan and Peizan, is one such initiative. Designed to spark connection and conversation, it reflects a growing movement toward human-centered entrepreneurship.

Mauritian entrepreneurs, especially those in the early to middle stages of their journey, often face more than just the struggle of getting ideas off the ground. There’s the isolation, the lack of access to peers who understand the grind and the invisible barriers to resources and genuine support. This morning’s event is an answer to all of that, a space designed not for performance but for presence. It’s about people showing up as themselves, ideas at any stage, dreams both big and uncertain.

What makes this gathering different is its informality, rooted in care and community. It’s being held at Yo Les Kocottes in Moka, a venue that, much like the entrepreneurs attending, blends creativity with purpose. The breakfast itself isn’t just a meal; it’s a curated experience that highlights local flavours and local makers, proving that even something as simple as food can serve as a platform for connection and empowerment.

At the heart of today’s breakfast is Coraline, founder of Peizan. More than just sharing her story, she’s offering a living example of what it looks like to build something meaningful from scratch, with care, purpose and a commitment to local impact. Her work with Peizan is a reflection of what Mauritius’s entrepreneurial future could be: sustainable, authentic and deeply rooted in place.

But today is not just about one founder. It’s about all the attendees who’ve chosen to show up. Whether they’re seasoned entrepreneurs or just starting to test an idea, they are stepping into a space intentionally built to support them. The value here isn’t just in what’s presented, it’s in who is present.

Turbine’s involvement is what turns this breakfast from a nice idea into something with real, lasting potential. Since its inception in 2016, Turbine has played a quiet but significant role in shaping the Mauritian entrepreneurial landscape. More than 150 entrepreneurs have been supported through its programs, which are tailored to meet startups wherever they are, whether that’s still in the idea stage or already looking to scale.

And the results speak for themselves. Thirty startups nurtured by Turbine are now actively contributing to the local economy. Seven of them have collectively raised over MUR 80 million in capital investment, a strong signal that the groundwork being laid is translating into real-world impact. These numbers aren’t just statistics; they’re livelihoods, jobs, products and solutions.

The breakfast also serves as a reminder of the kind of growth that isn’t just measured in revenue. Turbine has long aligned its work with global sustainable development goals, addressing everything from hunger and decent work to climate action and responsible consumption. This means the businesses they support aren’t just viable, they’re meaningful.

This morning’s event is just one example of how Turbine, along with its partners, is helping reshape what it means to be an entrepreneur in Mauritius. By weaving purpose into every element, from the food served to the stories shared, they’re showing that growth doesn’t have to be lonely and progress doesn’t have to be perfect.

For those in the room today, this may just be the beginning of new collaborations, friendships or breakthroughs. And for those watching from the outside, it’s a quiet invitation: there’s a place for them at the table too.

As the plates clear and conversations continue, the message is clear, Mauritius’s entrepreneurs aren’t just building businesses. They’re building a new culture of support, inclusion and sustainable ambition. And sometimes, that culture begins with breakfast.
